Or rather this whole month is supposed to be about savings. Not really saving for anything in specific although I do have a “handbag” savings account (which may be soon renamed to Ipad savings) but on the whole I’m just saving for the future. How responsible I know. The only problem is that there is always something I need. Not want, absolutely 100% need.
This problem first started at University, where after a year of working hard and earning money I found myself back on the breadline. I would get so upset about all the things I wanted, and remember one specific incident where I almost threw a tantrum in Sainsbury’s because I couldn’t justify the pink fluffy dressing gown I wanted so badly. [At this point I do feel the need to point out that yes I am an only child but no I am not completely spoilt – although I do remember that until about the age of 10 I thought paying by credit card meant things were free]. Regardless, my Dream Shopping List started. Dream Shopping List or DS List is a mental list of all the things I’ve ever wanted to purchase but can’t afford or justify. The longest items on the list, as mentioned on the Who I Am page are the AP Pjs and the Chrysler Crossfire. These have been on since before the Uni days and will probably always be on the list. Recent additions include a variety of items from some of those really big towels for the bathroom to a new suit for work (because although I rarely wear a full suit, I clearly need more than 3).
So I thought over the next few weeks I’d keep sharing the items on my Dream Shopping List with you. Maybe you can add your dream items to it. Maybe it’ll serve as some kind of therapy and we can be cured of our materialistic ways. Either that or we’ll be maxing out our credit cards at the Trafford Centre before I can muster the protest “but what about the savings account??!!”
