One Hundred Years…

So the last book I read was One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I have a confession to make – I was supposed to read this for university, but I didn’t get very far. I liked it, it was just really hard going compared to some of the other books on the course.

I never remembered how it ended so whilst on holiday I re-read it. And I absolutely loved it. I could totally see why my tutor praised it so highly and really wished I’d made an effort previously.

The book itself has a family tree at the beginning and trust me – you’ll need it. Whilst on holiday I was raising to finish the novel before all the pages fell out, which if you read the book is actually quite poignant if you get to the end. The novel follows the live of the Buendia family in the town they built, and the misfortune that falls on the inhabitants.

Heart wrenchingly tragic at times, but also in some ways inspirational an mystical – I’d recommend this to anyone with a habit for daydreaming.
